VRM Heatsink Idea

Performed a minor cooling procedure — implanted a fan directly onto the heatsinks bonded to the PCB. Patient responded immediately. Temperature reduced from 65°C to 42°C. Stable condition.

Miner was sent with Over Current Protection. I assembled it and it does work with no problem. Possible problem could be a dead fan. I recommended to the owner to replace it.

Diagnosis

Patient admitted today for a preventive procedure — request from the owner to install additional heatsinks on a NerdQaxe++.
Owner presented with high levels of anxiety regarding cooling efficiency, airflow, and fan behavior. Decision was made to proceed with experimental treatment.
Heatsinks were successfully bonded to the PCB. Given parts availability, an additional intervention was performed:
a 40×40 fan was implanted directly onto the newly installed heatsinks.
Procedure documented — see images for full surgical sequence.

Observations:

* VRM temperature dropped from **65°C to 42°C** immediately post-op
* Slight increase in total power consumption due to the additional fan
* ASIC temperature confirmed as the primary driver of overall power draw

Complication (minor):

During heatsink installation, the primary ASIC heatsink was unintentionally displaced.
This resulted in elevated temperatures and increased power consumption.

Correction:

A light mechanical adjustment (“wiggle therapy”) restored proper thermal contact.
ASIC temperature dropped, and power consumption returned to normal levels.

Outcome:

Patient stable. Cooling performance significantly improved.

Recommendation:

This cooling configuration is approved for replication. Procedure is safe and effective when performed with proper thermal contact.
